Dasman Diabetes Institute KUWAIT CAREER : APPLY NOW FOR THE LATEST JOB VACANCIES

The Dasman Diabetes Institute (DDI) was established under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah, the late Amir of the State of Kuwait, and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) to address the high prevalence of diabetes in Kuwait. DDI’s directive is defined by its core principles: its Mission is to combat the diabetes epidemic in Kuwait through focused diabetes research, integrated prevention, training, and education; and its Vision is to become the leading diabetes institute in the MENA region and achieve international recognition.

DDI Granted Patent for Innovative OSA Diagnostics

A significant achievement reflecting DDI’s strategic direction toward promoting applied research and innovation for community health is the recent acquisition of a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). A team of researchers from DDI—an institute established by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) in partnership with the Ministry of Health—obtained this patent for the development of an innovative new test designed to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This innovation is a qualitative blood test that facilitates the early detection of OSA, a common health disorder directly linked to serious, untreated complications, including the development of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease such as angina and heart attacks. This specific patent is the first of three patents currently under development by the institute to be completed.

The success is the result of the tireless efforts of Dr. Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Al-Turki, Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist and Head and Neck Surgeon at the Ministry of Health and Chair of the College of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialties (KIMS), who actively participated in the invention’s development alongside the DDI research team. The project was supervised by Professor Fahad Al-Mulla, Chief Scientific Officer at DDI, and supported by Dr. Faisal Hamed Al-Refaei, Acting Director General of the Institute. This milestone also highlights a distinguished institutional collaboration between the Dasman Diabetes Institute and the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity, both operating under the umbrella of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS). KFAS is making pivotal efforts to enhance the scientific research and innovation environment in Kuwait through an integrated strategy focused on supporting Kuwaiti scientists and researchers, empowering young talent, and launching advanced programs to improve the quality of scientific research, which ultimately contributes to community development and strengthens Kuwait’s scientific standing both regionally and internationally.
